Some of the FAQ (Frequently asked questions) about family tree research

What information would you need from me to get started?

You will need to provide me with some facts so we can start researching your family tree. Any information you may have, such as approximate dates of birth or marriage, and where these events may have taken place would be really helpful. Ideally we start with your parents and grandparents if possible. If you have copies of certificates, even better. A simple email containing the information is fine, scanned copies of certificates are better, and if you already have a tree as a document or software package on your computer, that would be ideal.

If I have already started researching my family tree, and am stuck, can you help me break down the brick wall?

Yes, of course I can try. I will double check your information though just to make sure you are on the right track. Although if the records are simply not there, there is no guarantee of success

How much does research cost? Can I pay from outside the UK?

Please see our services tab, and if your request is not covered, we can discuss a personalised quote. We offer a free, no obligation assessment. We also offer in some cases payment by instalments. And we DO accept payments from outside the UK, please ask for details. We can send research results as a file attachment which can be printed out either by clients, or sent to a printing company in your area

Can you research my complete family tree?

Unfortunately, there is no such item as a complete tree. My own tree has been growing for over 40 years , and as records become available, more is added. We can define a temporary stopping point for your tree, and take it up later of course

Could you research the family tree of both me and my spouse

Yes, of course. This would be an ideal project for a couple getting married, or a new baby. We could trace just the paternal lines for example of husband and wife. Please ask for a quote

Will I receive regular updates?

In the case of the PAYG research, payment is required in full before research starts, and you will be kept informed with regular updates. Usually a report is given within a few days of the research starting. For one of the packages, a deposit is required before research starts. Regular reports are provided, and the balance is payable in instalments. The information will be dispatched after the full payment has been made.

How long will it take to complete my family tree?

There is no definitive answer. Some names are easier to research, some families are more difficult. Our packages do not have time limits, only goals, but these are discussed at the outset

How will I receive the results?

The "Services" tab explains how we present our findings, and this will be set out in our contract when research is requested

What are your terms and conditions

As these can be quite lengthy, we will provide these on enquiry
